      Explore mode can offer a consultation-only experience: recipients view PDFs, images, video, audio, or 3D models in the browser with no download access.

      What is Explore mode?

      A viewing mode where preview runs in the recipient's browser, in an isolated way. No local copy is created until the recipient starts an explicit download.

      How is it different from a plain download page?

      A typical download page forces one action: download to see. Explore mode reverses the order — view first, download only if needed. The recipient stays in control of what stays on their device.

      Is the file stored on my computer while I'm viewing?

      No. Playback happens in the browser. A persistent copy on disk only appears after you explicitly download.

      Which file types are supported?

      PDF, DOCX, images, video, audio, 3D files (GLB, GLTF, OBJ, FBX), archives, and m3u/m3u8 playlists — all handled by the built-in player, with no third-party software to install.

      Does Explore mode work on mobile?

      Yes. It works in modern browsers on desktop, tablet, and phone. Some size limits apply on mobile to keep performance smooth.

      Can I share an audio playlist?

      Yes. If you send several audio files, the recipient gets a built-in player and can reorder tracks. If you attach an m3u or m3u8 file, the order is detected automatically.

      Can recipients customize playback for audio?

      Yes. Each recipient can reorder tracks to match how they listen. Order is local — each person has their own experience without changing the original transfer.

      Does this replace collaborative review with comments?

      No. FileVert Collab covers timestamped feedback on video, photo or audio across teams. Explore mode covers preview for recipients. They complement each other.

      Does Explore mode work with end-to-end encryption (E2EE)?

      No. E2EE technically prevents any preview — that is how we guarantee no one, not even FileVert, can access the content. For E2EE transfers, download remains the only option.

      Is there a size limit for preview?

      Yes, depending on file type. Video and audio are streamed without a cap. Documents (PDF, DOCX) and 3D files can be previewed up to 100 MB on desktop and 50 MB on mobile. Beyond that, download is still available.

      Is Explore mode free?

      Yes. Explore mode is included in all FileVert transfers, including free transfers with no sign-up.

      How do I turn Explore mode on for my transfer?

      Explore mode is on by default for all compatible transfers. You can turn it off from the send form if you prefer a direct download without preview.

      Can I disable downloads for my recipients?

      Yes. With a signed-in account, enable the option in your preferences: Explore mode switches to view-only for recipients (in-browser preview, downloads hidden). You keep download access as the sender.
