Where are my videos processed during conversion or compression?

All videos are processed directly in your browser, on your device. No file is sent to a FileVert server or a third-party cloud. Processing runs locally via WebCodecs and MediaBunny.

What's the difference between an online video converter and a local one?

An online “automatic subtitles” service uploads your video before transcription. FileVert is a local generator: transcription runs in your browser, with no upload. Edit cues and export a burned-in MP4 freely; the SRT file, multi-track MKV, and watermark-free export require a FileVert plan.

How do I convert a video for free without sending it to a server?

Which video formats can I convert (MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV)?

How do I convert a video to MP4?

Import your source video (MOV, MKV, WebM, etc.), select MP4 as output format and start conversion. The MP4 file is generated locally in your browser, ready to download or transfer via FileVert.

How do I compress a video to reduce file size?

Import your video and choose a quality profile other than "no compression" (Fast, Balanced or High quality). You can also target a precise file size in MB. FileVert re-encodes locally with an adapted bitrate.

How do I reduce video file size for email?

First compress your video with FileVert using a suitable quality profile (often MP4 H.264). Once the size is reduced, transfer the file via FileVert to bypass email attachment limits.

What's the difference between converting and compressing a video?

Converting changes the container or codec (e.g. MOV to MP4). Compressing reduces weight by re-encoding at a lower bitrate. FileVert combines both: choose output format and quality profile (pure conversion if you select "no compression").

Can I convert and compress multiple videos in batch?

Yes. Import multiple files to switch to batch mode. Each video is processed sequentially in your browser. Download results individually or preload them into a FileVert transfer.

Is the FileVert video converter really free?

Do I need to create an account?

No to convert or compress a video. A FileVert account is required for work ranges, multi-clip export, and to send an export larger than 2 GB.

How do I send a converted or compressed video with FileVert?

When processing is complete, click "Transfer these files". The optimized video is preloaded into a FileVert transfer. Your recipient can stream it (Explore mode) or download it. Beyond 2 GB, a FileVert account is required.

Can I target a precise file size (e.g. 25 MB)?

Yes. Select the "Target size" profile, enter the desired size in MB and FileVert adjusts the bitrate locally. Handy when you need a precise file size limit (attachment, sharing, etc.).
